Cannabis Party Policy

Policy Summary

If elected to Parliament, The Cannabis Party will pass legislation to:

  1. End criminal penalties for cannabis
  2. Legalise possession and use of cannabis
  3. Legalise cannabis growing
  4. Legalise medical cannabis sales
  5. Legalise recreational sales of cannabis
  6. Deregulate industrial hemp
  7. Fund public services

 

End criminal penalties

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to end the prohibition of cannabis:

  • Establish a moratorium on cannabis related arrests.
  • Discharge all pending cannabis related charges.
  • Discharge all existing sentences for cannabis charges.
  • Quash historical cannabis convictions.
  • Remove criminal penalties for cannabis from the law.

 

Legalise possession and use

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to legalise the personal use of cannabis:

  • Legalise the possession of cannabis by anyone over 18.
  • Legalise the use of cannabis by anyone over 18
  • Legalise the use of cannabis utensils.

 

Legalise cannabis growing

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to legalise the personal production and trade of cannabis:

  • Legalise the cultivation of cannabis by anyone over 18.
  • Legalise the social dealing of home grown cannabis.

 

Legalise medical cannabis

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to legalise the medical cannabis industry:

  • Allow doctors to issue patients with 'medpot' cards
  • Allow patients or their caregiver to grow or buy medicical cannabis.
  • Allow licenced corporations to sell medical cannabis to medpot card holders.
  • Allow licenced corporations to grow and produce medical cannabis.
  • Allow licenced corporations to export medical cannabis and derived products.

 

Legalise commercial sales

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to legalise the recreational cannabis industry:

  • Allow adults to buy cannabis from recreational dispensaries.
  • Allow licenced dispensaries to sell cannabis to anyone over 18.
  • Allow licenced dispensaries to buy cannabis from wholesalers.

 

Legalise commercial growing

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to legalise the commerical cannabis production:

  • Allow licenced corporations to grow cannabis.
  • Allow licenced corporations to sell cannabis to dispensaries

 

Deregulate industrial hemp

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to deregulate the hemp indstry:

  • Remove licence requirements for industrial hemp.
  • Allow anyone to grow industrial hemp without a licence.
  • Invest in infrastructure projects for the hemp industry.

 

Fund public services

The Cannabis Party will enact the following steps to generate public revenue:

  • Tax all companies involved in the medical cannabis industry at the usual rate.
  • Tax all companies involved in the recreational cannabis industry at the usual rate.
  • Tax all companies involved in the hemp industry at the usual rate.
  • Direct tax revenue from cannabis to schools, hospitals and other public services.
  • Fund drug education and research initiatives.
